“Give me a horse and a horizon. My soul will handle the rest”

I’d so pleased to introduce you to my latest sculpture.

Appalachee is a young mustang stallion. He has yet to prove himself, earn his place in the herd, and one day become a fearless and confident stallion. But for now, he is living his best youthful years—feasting on summer grass and carelessly exploring the vast prairies. He does not yet bear the scars and marks of battle, nor does he have a long mane or powerful muscles. It was precisely this image of a gentle, youthful mustang that I wanted to capture.

He is a small mustang, incredibly calm, relaxed, and still quite a youngster. He hasn't had time to grow a long, flowing mane yet, and his coat is free of battle scars or bite marks. He is a mustang in his summer coat and is looking quite well-fed. I would estimate his age to be around two or three years old. The main thing that sets Appi apart from most other mustangs is his tranquility. Appalachee is a very kind, non-confrontational stallion—not too long in the leg, not too short in the back, but perfectly proportioned: gentle, unmarked, and wonderfully serene.

I spent a year working on Appalachee sculpture . I started sculpting him in modeling clay  but in the end I wasn't happy with the quality of the material—it didn't capture the fine details well enough. So I cast a single copy in resin and then refined it to perfection. I sculpted his mane and tail in my signature style and I also brought a touch of effortless imperfection and lightness to the project.

Appalachee is completely hand-sculpted. He is highly detailed and carefully finished, yet I didn't want to overemphasize the muscles or make him overly realistic. Because of his compact size, Appalachee fits beautifully in your hands—and you'll want to keep stealing glances at him.
